My Continuity Case Woman Who Was Clinically Obese At The...

I have chosen to focus my assignment around one of my continuity case woman who was clinically obese at the time of booking. Within the NMC Code of Conduct (2015:6) it states that you must diligent in ensuring people’s right to confidentially is met; this is achieved by respecting their right to privacy. For this reason I will not be using any names or dates within my assignment in order to ensure the anonymity of the woman and her family. Public health is defined by the World Health Organisation as ‘all organised measures to prevent disease, promote health, and prolong life among the population as a whole’ (WHO, 2015). Within this role of public health, the midwife has an essential role. They are in the best position to be able to guide†¦show more content†¦When thinking of public health in regards specifically to obesity, a study into maternal obesity and the long-term health of the offspring, found that ‘maternal obesity has been associated with a number of long-term adverse health outcomes in the offspring, including lifelong risk of obesity and metabolic dysregulation with increased insulin resistance, hypertension and dyslipidaemia, as well as behavioural problems and risk of asthma’ (O’Reilly et al, 2012:1), this highlights to us the implications not just to mother, but the long term effects to her child. Regarding my continuity case, she came into booking with a BMI of 31; meaning she was clinically obese. It is important to take into account that according to NICE guidelines (2014) weight is defined into groups. BMI 18.5-24.9 (Healthy weight); BMI 25.0-29.9 (Overweight) BMI 30.0-34.9 (Obesity class 1); BMI 35.0-39.9 (Obesity class 2); and BMI 40 and over (Obesity class 3 or morbid obesity.) When using this classification method we can see that this lady falls into class 1; meaning that according to NICE they advise at this stage we give general advice on healthy weight and lifestyle, along with diet and physical activity. It is should be remembered that diet is not usually advised before during or immediately after pregnancy; but these women should be encouraged to attempt to eat a healthy, well balanced diet (Nutrition and Development, 2013). Solid Waste Management Sources and Classification

Solid Waste Management Solid Waste Sources and Classification There are many different types of solid waste classified according to a variety of criteria, from source to potential hazard. The most basic classifications typically used in solid waste management are municipal solid waste (which includes most of the waste produced by regular and ongoing human activities, including many industrial and institutional waste by products) and non-municipal waste, which includes specific types of industrial waste and certain other non-classified and non-municipal waste products (IDEM, 2001; Sasikumar Krishna, 2009). A reuse classification is also sometimes used to refer to any waste, regardless of the source, that can be used in the construction of landfills and does not otherwise need to be treated and disposed of in a manner similar to other types of solid waste (IDEM, 2001). Virtually all activities that take place on a significant scale produce some type of solid waste, as an examination of further classification of waste types clearly shows. Munici pal waste has residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial components, and includes all non-water waste produced by housing units, retail and wholesale businesses, institutions such as prisons and hospitals, and large-scale office businesses (IDEM, 2001). Non-municipal waste includes construction/demolition debris, foundry waste, coal ash, and other similar by-products of intense refining or manufacturing operationsShow MoreRelatedPhilippine Environment Code1477 Words   |  6 PagesPresident Ferdinand E. Internet Censorship Essay Example For Students

Internet Censorship Essay Censorship, a controversial word that has been with us since who knows when. Ancient dictators would burn books because they didnt like them and force people to believe what he did. The question I ask myself though is if censorship in Libraries and schools is justified. My answer is no, and that is what I will try to convince you. Censorship is ridiculous, unfair and selfish, and censors are hypocritical, intolerant, and arrogant. What I mean when I say censorship is ridiculous is exactly that. In Censorship Opposing Viewpoints, it states that the American Heritage Dictionary was banned from Anchorage, Alaska because of words dubbed obscene, like bed, tail, ball, and nut. At first we laugh at it, but we stop when we hear it has also been banned in Cedar City, Indiana, and Eldon, Missouri. % other dictionaries were banned in Texas. These people that ban them call themselves People for Better Education. I thought dictionaries help you learn? An article in Scholastic Update entitled The Case of the disappearing Books it says last year there were 338 cases of parents trying to remove books, among these was the classic Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. A teacher was fired because she assigned a book with a lesbian as a main character. A parent, Ruth Somoro, said this was being intolerant of religious beliefs, and schools arent supposed to promote religious beliefs. Hmm, I dont get it. The Supreme Court ruled books co uldnt be removed because they dislike the ideas in them. A students says, They dont let me bring God into school, so I dont think they should be able to bring the devil into school. this boy thought homosexuals descended directly from the devil. This is a religious belief that he can keep at home and in church, but keep it away from school. Religious Right people seem to think that if you have a word in your vocabulary such as, academic freedom, analysis, career education, creative writing, human growth, identity, parenting, racism, world view, and self-understanding, there are others but I think this gets all of the human race, you are a secular humanist. This has now become known as anyone with other beliefs than the Religious Right, it is a code word for communism. These people are part of a conspiracy against America an dare also communists who shouldnt have a say in anything. This is from an essay in Censorship opposing viewpoint, by Michael Scott Cane. It is truly ridiculous. The second aspect that censorship is unfair and selfish deals with our rights and the First Amendment. A quote from Nat Hentoff in The Case of the disappearing books, says, The First Amendment doesnt just give you the right to express ideas, theres also a right to receive them. We have the right to read any book we want and educate ourselves; the library plays a big part in this. Guess what, we also have the right to choice and we can choose not to read something if we dont like the content, that doesnt mean we have to force others not to read it. In Publishers Weekly an article, School Board Bans Acclaimed Gang-Life Memoir the Rockford, Illinois school district banned the book Always Running: A Memoir of LA Vida Loca, Gang Life in L.A. Kids from elsewhere poured in letters thanking for the book. This is not fair to the students in Rockford. The book just portrays life, and people have to learn to deal with what goes on in the world. The Religious Right seems to be forcing their beli efs on us, and we also have freedom of Religion. The Religious Right is trying to take over the libraries locally. The libraries would then be family friendly with parental advisory sections because they feel it is no longer safe for a little kid to walk through a library. This is according to Karen Jo Gounaud in an article from the Education Digest, The Religious Right Hits Libraries. The Religious Right doesnt agree with ALAs Bill of Rights, which is totally anticensorship. I think these people must be protecting themselves from the outside world, not watching news or reading newspapers to see what really happens and the horrors people have to go through every day, we learn about them sometime. I feel bad for their kids. .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53 , .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53 .postImageUrl , .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53 , .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53:hover , .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53:visited , .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53:active { border:0!important; } .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53:active , .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53 .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u362a174824c98b46e36e4ec3c18aaf53:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Should Marijuana Be Legalized? EssayThe last point is ever so true. Censors are the most arrogant, hypocritical, intolerant people ever. In Censorship Opposing Viewpoints the essay by Michael Scott Cane also says Secular humanism causes falling test scores, declining values, lack of Christian morals, poor grammar, situational ethics, and other things they disapprove of. It is destroying the family, wrecking society, and wiping out the minds of children. I dont see this happening. They also said how much better everything was when in Public School they taught praying and the bible, back in the old days. I dont think so. A problem is that there is no compromise; there are no neutral parties. In The Religious Right Hits Libraries Karen Jo Gounaud says there is too much material that undermines traditional values and traditional family. The term traditional is outdated, many families are single parents, or parents of the same sex, or have family problems. They cannot solve all problems by forcing beliefs on you. They think if you do not have their beliefs you will corrupt society, but look at me, I have no religious beliefs, do I corrupt society? The Religious Right also says the Liberal Left censors and undermines education, how hypocritical is that? Who is to say whose moral beliefs are correct, with censorship you are saying with absolute certainty that your are, and not being tolerant of others. Throughout my speech I have proved censorship in libraries and schools is unjustified because it is ridiculous, unfair and selfish, and censors are hypocritical, arrogant, and intolerant. I hope you learn censorship is not a good thing, speak out against it. Bibliography:

Advantages Of Cosmetic Surgery Essay Example For Students

Advantages Of Cosmetic Surgery Essay Thesis statement: With the growing popularity of cosmetic surgery since the 1950s, plastic surgery has become misidentified with beauty surgery, when, in fact, a large percentage of procedures serve a medical purpose. B. Requirements of a plastic surgeon b. Afflicts fewer than 1,000 AmericansA. Number of days until makeup can be worn, hair shampooedPlastic surgery deals with the remodeling of any portion of the body that has been damaged or deformed. The primary objectives of plastic surgery are the correction of defects, the restoration of lost function, and the improvement of appearance. Appearance plays a large role in the lives of most people, which has caused cosmetic surgery to become a popular type of plastic surgery practiced. Cosmetic surgery is a branch of plastic surgery that is designed to alter a persons looks. Although cosmetic surgery is viewed by many as vain and shallow, it does a great deal more than deliver just a pretty face. Thousands of people who have had successful surgeries to improve their looks have reported that the changes made them happier than they had ever thought possible. Self-esteem soars to new heights, allowing shy, self-conscious, or aging people to become more outgoing, self-confident, and youthful. The history of modern facial plastic surgery began more than one hundred years ago, when a few men independently began to explore a new surgical frontier of reconstructive and functional repairs that also improved appearance. By observing one another these surgeons rapidly improved and expanded the procedures each could perform. One surgeon in particular stands out from this time. Jacques Joseph was working as the assistant to orthopedic surgeon Professor Dr. Julius Wolff in Berlin, Germany, when he became interested in facial plastic surgery. Josephs first case was a y oung boy, who refused to attend school because he suffered such ridicule from classmates for his large, protruding ears. In 1896, the boys mother approached Joseph for advice, asking if there might be surgical relief for her sons problem. After careful planning, Joseph operated successfully, earning him a place in history as the father of the modern subspecialty. (Simons 3-5). Reshaping of the nose, or rhinoplasty, is one of the most common of all the plastic surgery procedures. Thousands of people every year choose this procedure to change the size or shape of their noses. Rhinoplasty can change the size of your nose, change the angle between your nose and your upper lip, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, or narrow the width of the nostrils. It may also correct birth defects or breathing problems. Teenagers are best treated after their growth spurt, around age 14-15 for girls and 15-16 for boys (Hill 7). A major technique used in plastic surgery is grafting, the transplanting or implanting of living tissue from one part of the body to another, or from one person to another, with the expectation that the tissue will grow to supply a missing part. Several techniques of skin grafting are commonly used. One is the transfer of tissue from an adjacent part to the defect by transposition or rotation of flaps of skin. Another frequently used technique, particularly in minor facial defects, is full-thickness grafting, in which the full thickness of the skin is removed and transferred as a free translplant to the defective area (Rees 155-7). These types of skin grafting have proven to be the most effective. Eyelid surgery is the most frequently performed of all facial cosmetic operations (Rees 90). Except for reconstruction of the nose, this type of cosmetic surgery is the most difficult one for surgeons to do, calling for one of the oldest operations in the arsenal of cosmetic surgery and the technique is widely known and practiced (Hill 11). What this operation does is remove loose and redundant fat, as well as skin, and sometimes even muscle, from the upper and lower eyelids. .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510 , .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510 .postImageUrl , .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510 , .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510:hover , .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510:visited , .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510:active { border:0!important; } .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510:active , .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510 .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u0fd2cc9c43ed318531abe176fa189510:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The French and Indian War EssayThomas D.
